Duke pitcher Shelby Walters is transferring to Georgia, she announced on social media on Thursday.

“Tell the world I’m coming home… I am beyond excited to announce that I will be finishing the remainder of my eligibility at the University of Georgia. GO DAWGS!!!” Walters wrote.

A graduate transfer and Cohutta, Georgia native, Walters carried a graduate transfer designation and one year of remaining eligibility.

Walters appeared in six games at Duke during the 2022 season before suffering an injury.

The 2021 season saw a breakout campaign from Walters, including a career-best 1.28 ERA in 147.2 innings of work in the circle. She assembled a 19-3 overall record on the year, helping lead the Blue Devils to the ACC tournament title and a top 16 national seed in the NCAA tournament.

Prior to the 2022 season, Walters owned a 2.28 career ERA and 204 career strikeouts. Opponents hit .228 against her during her first three seasons as a Blue Devil, including to the tune of a paltry .197 batting average during the ’21 season.
