EXTRA SPOTLIGHT: ARLETTE CARAVACA
Jacksonville Storm 16U National-Harris Arlette Caravaca, #9 Outfielder in the Class of 2024, helped Cooper City High reach the FHSAA Final 8 as a freshman and will play for Team Central America representing Nicaragua at the Triple Crown International Challenge this summer in Colorado. Caravaca recently talked to Extra Inning Softball.

Honors:
Named 2nd Team All-County as a freshman by the Miami Herald and the Sun Sentinel and #9 Outfielder in the Class of 2024.
Travel Ball Fall Stats:
Batted .466 (54 for 116), 1.130 OPS, 47 runs, 22 SBs, 26 RBIs, 10 2Bs, 3 triples and 3 HRs (1 ITP).
High School Stats:
Batted .388 with 11 Runs and 3 HRs.
Tell us about your travel team/organization and how you became involved with them?
I play for the Jacksonville Storm National- Harris. I used to play for my dad’s Florida Storm 05, but we lost two of the three pitchers we had; then, we decided to stay within the organization and moved to play with my current team, which is also coached by my dad, German Caravaca. Our team, because of success and hard schedule, was tagged as the National 16U team for the Jacksonville Storm organization.
What should we expect from your club team this summer?
We had an amazing fall, going 27-13 playing top competition in the country. We are expected to excel at the highest level based on the talent we have and the one we added. We are aiming to play great tournaments as well (Show Me the Money, Atlanta Legacy, Thunderbolts Showcase, Colorado Sparkler and PGF Nationals).
Can you talk about coming from a family of softball coaches?
My dad has been associated with baseball/softball ever since he was a little boy, so I definitely take a lot of advice from him. It also can be very overwhelming sometimes with the pressure due to the high standards he has for me. However, I find it very comforting to know he sees I can be a very good player and thinks I can become even better.
What was it like making the varsity roster at Cooper City High as a freshman and what did it take?
My High School Coach knew about me because of my sister, Kirsten Caravaca, but he had not seen me play until HS try outs. I was able to make the varsity team because of a strong tryout. As the season went on and I had the opportunity to show my skills, I was able to produce and earn my spot in the starting lineup for the most part of the season. It was a tough task as we had a lot of talented, committed seniors.
Do you have a secret talent/skill?
I was taught to play the piano when I was little and I still remember how to play a song.
What’s your most memorable softball story?
I remember a tournament in 10U with Central Florida Camo (USA Elite National Championship) in Kissimmee, FL. We played so many great teams, finished top 5 and we played so many games. I remember we finished a bracket game at 2 a.m. to be back at 8 a.m. for another one!!!
