Troy head coach Beth Mullins is taking a leave of absence from coaching in order to deal with a health issue, the program announced on Sunday afternoon.

Mullins is entering her eighth season at the helm of the Trojans program and led the program back to the NCAA tournament last season for the first time in more than two decades. The Trojans have crossed the 30-win plateau in three consecutive full seasons, beginning in 2018.

“We fully support Coach Mullins and her decision to take a medical leave of absence as she focuses on her health and well-being,” Troy athletic director Brent Jones wrote on Twitter following the announcement on Sunday.

Assistant coaches Taylor Smartt and Holly Ward will assume the titles of co-interim head coaches during Mullins’ absence; Smartt will coach the team’s offense and defense, while Ward will work with the Trojan pitching staff. Smartt, a program alum, is in her 7th season on staff, while Ward enters her 3rd year with the program.

Additionally, to fill out the coaching staff during Mullins’ absence, program Director of Operations Kristy Lawrence will take an on-field coaching role. Lawrence has spent the last decade as the Trojans’ Director of Ops and played for the Australian National Team and collegiately at Samford.
