Eric Newell has been hired as the new head coach at Troy, the school announced on Thursday.
Newell spent the last eight seasons at Division 2 Auburn-Montgomery, guiding the Warhawks to 302 wins during his tenure. AUM reached the D2 Softball World Series this season and were among the last six teams standing.
“We are thrilled to welcome Eric Newell and his family to Troy,” athletic director Brent Jones said in a school statement. “Coach Newell is a national championship winning coach who has had tremendous success everywhere he has been. He is a relentless recruiter who knows our recruiting area extremely well while also having regional and national connections and demonstrating a proven track record in player development. The future is incredibly bright with Eric Newell leading our proud softball program.”
In sixteen years as a head coach, Newell owns a .727 career winning percentage. He guided the AUM program through the transition from NAIA to Division II. Prior to AUM, he spent eight seasons as the head coach at Williams Baptist.
