Video: Our Summer Interviews with Auburn Signee Nelia Peralta, the MVP of the PGF High School All-American Game

Nelia Peralta at the Atlanta Legacy in July.

One of the great aspects of what we do at Extra Inning Softball is getting to see and follow young talents who develop over time and end up playing in college… and beyond.

Nelia Peralta, the outstanding 2021 infielder for the Birmingham Thunderbolts, is a great example.

Of Dominican heritage and now a resident of South Florida, we’ve followed her for years after she got her early beginnings on the fields not in softball, but in baseball.

And Nelia, who was ranked in the Top 10 of the 2021 Extra Elite 100, was an elite baseball player!

This summer, our paths crossed with the Auburn signee and her team several times including two interviews we did on video… you can see by her responses that she is a smart, articulate and well-composed speaker as she is now (as of last week) at Auburn beginning the next stage of her athletic and academic life!

Club Spotlight: PGF High School All-American (Senior) Game Goes to the East With Strong Pitching & Peralta’s Big Hit

Originally published on Saturday, July 31, 2021

Nelia Peralta being interviewed by Amanda Freed after the PGF Senior High School All-American Game on July 31, 2021 where she was the MVP.

After a scoreless first inning behind the pitching of Allison Benning (Oregon) for the East, sporting the Red jerseys, and Dee Dee Hernandez of the blue-clad West, the East (Red) team jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second highlighted by a two-run single from infielder Nelia Peralta (Auburn)

In the bottom of the 2nd, the Easts’ outfielder Tyler Ebbs (Kentucky) singled in a run to pull the west to within 3-1 but that score would last through the 7th inning as the pitching and defense was impressive on both sides.

The West rolled out Stevie Hansen (Oregon) and Nicola Simpson (Tennessee) while the winning East squad started another incoming Oregon signee, Allison Benning, along with Jordyn Bahl (Oklahoma), who had just finished the 18U title game win for the Nebraska Gold with 18 K’s, and finished with Samantha Landry, the future Ragin’ Cajun who pitched the last four innings and didn’t give up a run.

Landry had seven strikeouts with just one hit given up in her four innings and was named by Extra Inning Softball as the Pitching MVP of the game. Peralta, for her efforts which included the pair of RBIs, single and walk, was named the Game MVP by PGF.

The East pitchers, including Landry, held the powerful West bats to just three hits while the winning side had 10 hits.
