Washington freshman Olivia Johnson has been named the Extra Inning Softball National Player of the Week for her accomplishments during Week 1 of the regular season.
Johnson, a true freshman, batted .700 (7-10) with three home runs, eight RBIs, seven walks, and five runs scored on the weekend as she helped guide her team to a 5-0 start to the regular season.
The freshman got her career off to a shining start with a perfect 3-3 performance in the season opener against Lamar. She hit a home run in each of her first two career at-bats, including a solo shot in the first inning and a 3-run home run in the third. She added an RBI triple in the fourth inning and later scored, giving her a total of five RBIs and three runs scored on the day.
Johnson reached base in every game of the weekend, recording at least one hit in four of the five games. In the Huskies’ lone faceoff with Rutgers, she officially was 0-0 at the plate, earning four walks – all of which were intentional, according to the official box score.
In the first of two games against Arkansas, Johnson hit her third home run of the weekend, adding three RBIs. A 1-4 performance at the plate in the weekend finale marked the only times the entire weekend that she recorded an out.
