12 Questions with Speedy 2021 Outfielder Scout Jennings (& Why She’ll Be a Golden Eagle!)

You often hear comments about softball players who have “track speed,” but Scout Jennings from Carrolton, Georgia really is track-fast as shown by her setting school records and going to state in Georgia in sprints and sprint relays.

The 2021 Extra Elite 100 honoree also has had great success in softball and halfway through her junior season she’s batting .469 with a .509 on-base percentage and 11 stolen bases.

But Scout isn’t just fast, she has pop in the bat as well and also has cracked six home runs and driven in 16 runs.

She recently committed to Southern Mississippi and in our interview with her below you’ll found out why she’s headed that way…

Top Softball Honors/Accomplishments: 2021 Extra Elite 100 honoree, ranked Top 20 outfielder in the Class of 2021; 2^nd Team All-State (Softball) in 2018, 1^st Team All-Region, 1^st Team All-Area and All-Area Sophomore of the Year after hitting .50 with 10 doubles, five triples, five home runs and 25 RBIs as a sophomore.

Top Track Accomplishments (2019): Won Region in the 400-meters and 200 meters; set school record in 200-meters with 24.85-seconds; went to state in 4×400, 4×100 relays, 200-meters and 400-meters finishing in the Top 10 in the state for 200 meters and Top 16 for the 400-meters.

Other Honors: Member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club

Scouting Report: Scout is a power hitter with elite speed, having been clocked in the 2.6-2.7 range home-to-first combination. She hits for a high average as well as hits double digits in home runs.

You’re a big-time track athlete… how has track, including sprints, translated to your success in softball?
Participating in track helps me have more endurance for tournaments where my teammates and I may have several games in a day. Also, because of my speed, I am able to cover a lot of ground quickly and can quickly back up my teammate’s plays as well.
