Lengthy winning streaks, their coach celebrating his 1,000th career triumph, and a return to national attention were all highlights of USC Upstate’s 2022 season. The Spartans kicked off the year with eleven straight wins, then put together a 15-game streak of victories later in the year.
In March, longtime head coach Chris Hawkins celebrated the 1,000th win of his decades-long career in Spartanburg. The program was the first in the nation to reach the 40-win plateau and finished the year in a 3-way tie for first place in the conference standings. In the Big South tournament, though, a 1-2 showing ended the Spartans’ year sooner than they would have liked.
Pitcher Hannah Houge made quite an impact in her one year in the circle as a Spartan, but graduated following last season. A plethora of returning offensive contributors will highlight the Upstate roster in 2023.
