As part of our in-depth preseason college softball coverage, today we dive into Conference USA and forecast what could be in store for the league during the 2023 season.
For our remaining Conference Forecasts in 2023, we’ve also added a team-by-team breakdown and analysis of every program in the conference. Check that out in Section XI below.
1. Conference Breakdown
Louisiana Tech and Western Kentucky won the CUSA West and East divisions, respectively, with the Lady Techsters earning the regular-season conference title by a full game. In the C-USA tournament, it was North Texas who ran the table and emerged as conference champions, earning the league’s automatic berth into the NCAA tournament.
Two programs departed Conference USA this summer, with Marshall and Southern Miss leaving to join the Sun Belt Conference. While a total of five new programs were announced this summer and will join the league over the next two years, the C-USA did not anyone immediately, leaving the conference with a current net loss of two in realignment.
The ten current members of Conference USA’s softball slate include Charlotte, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee State, North Texas, UAB, UTEP, UTSA, and Western Kentucky.
