2023 Southland Conference Forecast

As part of our in-depth preseason college softball coverage, today we dive into the Southland Conference and forecast what could be in store for the league during the 2023 season.

1. Conference Breakdown

McNeese won both the regular-season and conference tournament crowns last season, finishing atop the season standings and running the table in the conference tournament.

The Southland was +2 in this summer’s mass realignment, re-adding one former member and adding a second program anew. Lamar returned after a brief tenure in the WAC, while Texas A&M-Commerce joined the league as they move up from Division II.

Also worthy of note: The school formerly known as Houston Baptist University underwent a name and branding change and is now Houston Christian University.

Nine softball programs currently call the Southland home; those programs include Houston Christian, Incarnate Word, Lamar, McNeese, Nicholls, Northwestern State, Southeastern Louisiana, Texas A&M-Commerce, and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi..
