Inside Pitch: Taylor Pannell Can Now Add “National Champion” To Her Resume

Taylor Pannell holding the PGF 14U Nationals trophy on Sunday, August 4, 2019.

Taylor Pannell, the sophomore from Milan, Illinois, has a long and impressive list of softball accomplishments.

She’s ranked as one of the Top 10 players in the 2022 Extra Elite 100 and this past spring was honored as a 1st Team Extra Inning Softball All-American. Earlier today she was listed as a PGF Premier All-Tournament Teams member as chosen by Extra Inning Softball and So Cal Sidelines’ reps.

Along with her individual awards, you can now add “National Champion” as the Auburn commit had an outstanding week at PGF 14U Nationals for her Tennessee Mojo 04-Fisher team that went 8-0 and won the title game on Sunday, August 4, 2019, beating the AZ Storm-Appel 4-2.

Taylor had an RBI double in that game to score the first of her team’s runs and was outstanding all tournament as she hit .394 and had a .488 on-base percentage while driving in nine runs, scored 12 times and walked six times. She also led the team with six steals.

Taylor Pannell celebrates after hitting a home run against the Hotshots.

Said Mojo coach Josh Fisher: “Taylor had some huge hits through the event including a home run versus the Hotshots Premier-Nelson. She had an excellent week.”

We first got to meet the standout infielder in an Extra Star Power feature that we published in March, 2018.

Since then Taylor has blogged for us on topics ranging from why it’s so important to return to So Cal for the PGF Nationals to the importance of role models (and how others feel she is one).

She joined Mojo at the beginning of the year and talked about Making the Move to Mojo as part of her annual goal to get to PGF Nationals in the summer to win a title.

In her latest Inside Pitch, Taylor recaps her week at PGF achieving her dream: taking home the National Championship trophy!

This past week my team played in the PGF 14U National Championship in Huntington Beach, California.

The Mojo celebration after winning the PGF 14U Premier National Championship on Sunday, August 4, 2019.

We ended up winning it all!

Throughout the week we played some really intense games. One of our games against Firecrackers-Brashear; we ended up winning in the 11th inning in ITB.

In my opinion, our best game we played was against the Diamond Sport Hotshots – Nelson. We won that game 12-0.

The Hotshots are one of the best teams in the country and have two of the best pitchers in the 2022 class—one is going to Oklahoma and the other is going to LSU.

We scored a run in the first inning which was huge and in third inning we got back through the lineup and I hit a solo home run which made the score 2-0. In the last inning alone, though, we scored nine runs.

Keagan Rothrock pitched an outstanding game against them with eight strikeouts and Maci Bergeron, our catcher, caught an amazing game and threw out two girls attempting to steal secnd base.

Throughout the tournament we stayed in the Winner’s Bracket which was huge because if we did not, we would have had to play twice, or maybe even three times, as many games as we did in the Winner’s Bracket.
