The USA Women’s National Team fell to Canada on Friday 3-2, but still has a chance to get the Gold on Saturday at the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru.
Team Canada is now in the finals and the USA WNT will play Puerto Rico tomorrow morning at 10 am CST for a chance to face Canada and get the Gold.
The USA team beat Canada 6-1 on Tuesday behind Monica Abbott’s 12 strikeout-performance and two-hitter, but Friday saw the Canadians even up this week’s match-ups between the North American powers at 1-1.
Team USA jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead on a Haylie McCleney home run, but Canada drew even with a Janet Leung RBI in the top of the second.
Canada would add two more in the four as Emma Entzminger and Jenn Salling would each stroke RBI singles.
McCleney would hit her second home run of the day in the 6th inning, but Danielle Lawrie would close out the big win for Team Canada as she would throw two innings with one earned run allowed and three K’s.
Sara Groenewegen started for Canada throwing three innings and giving up the early home run while striking out three. Jenna Caira would pitch the middle two innings and not allow a run to collect the win.
Cat Osterman took the loss for the USA team as she went 3.1 innings with three earned runs, five K’s and one walk.
