Extra Elite 100 Player Rankings FAQ… We Answer Your Questions!

Extra Elite 100 Rankings…We Answer Your Questions!

At Extra Inning Softball, we cover all areas of fastpitch softball—from travel ball and high school up through college, pros, and international play.

One of the most popular features on our site is honoring hard-working athletes in various graduation classes via our Extra Elite 100 Player Rankings.

We receive inquiries every day on how the process works and have answered the most frequently asked questions below…

*****

Who determines where players are ranked?

The Extra Inning Softball rankings committee determines which players are ranked in the Extra Elite 100. Other important facts about our rankings committee include:

  • The EIS rankings committee is composed entirely of individuals who have played and coached fastpitch softball at high levels, bringing a wealth of experience and insight to the rankings. Their deep understanding of the game ensures a more nuanced and accurate assessment of talent.
  • To preserve the integrity of the rankings, the identities of committee members remain confidential, safeguarding the process against potential conflicts of interest or bias.
  • Rankings are determined through unanimous consensus among all committee members, reflecting a collective agreement on the placement of each player and team both locally and nationally. This methodical approach is designed to enhance fairness and accuracy, setting a new standard in the evaluation of young athletes.

How important are stats?

Stats are important! Numbers reflect positive results and accomplishments among top talent in the nation. However, we also weigh other factors such as level of competition, positions and what they entail, age division and year (i.e., is the team first or second year in its age division, such as 12U, 14U, etc.), top opponents played, and many other factors.

Who can, or should, nominate a player?

Club, High School, Pitching coach, Hitting coaches and college coaches/scouts are the primary outside sources for nominations. Parents are welcome to submit information that will be stored for bio compilations and potential stories.

How do the Extra Elite 100 Player Rankings work?

After our rankings committee reviews each player nomination and determines rankings status, we rank according to the player’s position. Our Extra Elite 100 rankings highlight the top 100 pitchers, 100 Infielders, 100 outfielders, and 100 catchers on a national level. At times we may also rank the top 100 utility players.

Is there a cost to nominate a player or for a player to be ranked?

We do not require any fees to nominate a player to be considered for rankings. There is no charge to rank a player.

A Note to Coaches and Parents

We urge coaches and parents to be particularly vigilant about the nomination deadlines. While we strive to remind coaches of these critical dates, their schedules can be demanding, and sometimes notification efforts do not reach everyone involved. Consequently, if a player’s updated information is not submitted within the designated period, the rankings committee will not have sufficient data to consider them for ranking—even if they have been ranked in previous years.

It is crucial for all stakeholders to recognize that failure to provide updated information could result in a player not being ranked, not due to a lack of talent, but simply because of incomplete player information that the rankings committee needs to base their decisions in the spirit of accuracy and fairness. Therefore, we encourage parents, coaches, and organizational leaders to take active responsibility in the nomination process, ensuring that all deserving players are evaluated. A complete schedule of our nominations deadlines and rankings release dates can be found HERE.
