We’re a little over a full month into the new year and already my life looks different than it did this time last year.
Today, I went into the office at Union University where the other sports communications graduate assistants and I work. I made the Word rosters for Union’s softball team, as well as did a practice game on the stating computer.
I will be traveling with my former team to Louisiana this weekend for their first tournament, and I’m in charge of keeping the stats. It’s kind of nerve-wracking because I know that what I input will become the statistics on Union’s athletics website. When I was a player, my stats were very important to me. I would look at them after just about every game, so I want to make sure to do it right for the girls on the team this year.
Anyway, what I’m getting at is that these weren’t things that were on my radar on Jan. 29, 2023. Then, I wasn’t worried about stating a game. Instead, I was thinking about playing in the games. With the first game of the season rapidly approaching, I was wondering if my senior season would be everything I hoped for. Would I finish on a high note? Or would I have a disappointing year in which my numbers would plummet, and I would feel like I let myself and my team down? At that point, my life was still very much centered around playing the game of softball.
