Baylor two-way standout Aliyah Binford is out for the remainder of the season, she announced on social media earlier this week.
“Now that many questions are starting to arise, I believe it is time to make known that I am no longer playing softball this season as I have suffered a season ending injury,” Binford wrote on her Instagram page on Sunday. “I broke my cartilage in our game against Minnesota and received surgery last Monday on the 20th.”
“It has been very heartbreaking, but instead of constantly questioning “why me?” I know I’m still going to take my role and run with it (no pun intended) God has a plan for me and as of right now its not playing softball but being that voice on/ off the field. With all of this said, I can’t wait to be back on the Diamond, in Green and Gold with my girls next year.”
Binford’s post included the Bible verse and reference Philippians 4:13, “I can do all this through HIM who gives me STRENGTH”.
Binford last appeared in a February 24th game against Minnesota, a game that she started in the pitcher’s circle and finished at third base. Prior to her injury, Binford’s 2023 statistics included a .440 batting average with a .680 slugging percentage and one home run, as well as a 4.00 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 21 innings of work.
Last season, Binford was an all-conference and all-region selection after emerging as a breakout star on both sides of the ball for the Bears. She was also named the Most Valuable Player of the NISC postseason tournament.
