Tragedy has hit the OC Batbusters’ travel ball family as Brent Matsuno, the father of 2025 second baseman Kalie Matsuno, a member of the Batbusters – Stith 14U team, died earlier today (Thursday, August 12, 2021) from COVID complications.
According to a source close to the team, the athlete’s father contracted COVID while the team was in Florida competing at the Alliance Nationals in Viera, Florida from July 26 to July 31, 2021.
A GoFundMe account was created to help his family… Click HERE to access the page.
The text for the page, created earlier Thursday, says the following:
Brent Matsuno, husband, father, son, coach and friend contracted COVID-19 while traveling to Florida with his family for a national girls’ softball tournament. His daughter plays for a Southern California team, the “Batbusters”.
On Thursday, August 12, 2021, Brent passed away unexpectedly and is now with God in Heaven. Our campaign has turned from help with everyday living expenses for the family so far away from home to expenses associated with laying him to rest in eternity. Expenses will include transferring Brent home to California, funeral, burial and associated expenses. We appreciate your support, love and prayers for the Matsuno family during this difficult and challenging time.
Extra Inning Softball extends our condolences to the Matsuno family and the Batbusters organization and encourages anyone in a position to help to donate to the GoFundMe Donation Page.
