The PGF High School All-American Game has been recognized over the last several years as the top contest of pre-college talent in fastpitch softball.
Today, it was announced out of the PGF headquarters in Huntington Beach, California, that the game— which has featured many of the standout collegians currently in the Women’s College World Series—will be paired with a similar game fielding younger players, those from the Classes of 2022 and 2023.
“We have officially announced the 2021 Inaugural PGF Futures All American Game,” PGF President Dan Hay said today. “This game will represent the best underclassmen in the country as they work towards the highest individual honor in youth fastpitch softball. We are promoting this as an opportunity to give these younger age groups a chance to compete at the highest level.”
This game will be held July 31st, 2021 and aired live on ESPNU along with the broadcast of the PGF High School All American Game.
The idea was initiated by Bill Conroy, the head of the Beverly Bandits and one of the board members for PGF, about six weeks ago.
He took the idea to Hay who quickly signed on and, once several key sponsors were locked in, the game was locked in. Easton and Rawlings are the sponsors of both games and the Gluv will provide uniforms. A shoe sponsor will also be announced soon.
“We wanted to give the younger players across the country the chance to get big-game experience playing the best in a similar format as the High School Game,” added Conroy. “This will be a chance for them, and us, to see the future of softball including many who will themselves be college stars playing in the World Series down the road.”
The watchlist includes top players from the Classes of 2022 and 2023 and could include the #1 overall players in their respective classes: catcher Sam Roe of the Birmingham Thunderbolts, #1 in the 2022 Extra Elite 100, and infielder Mia Williams with the Georgia Impact, top-ranked in the recently released 2023 Extra Elite 100. Both young players committed early to Florida.
Final rosters, according to Hay, will decided and announced as early as Monday.
