Club Event Recap: Corona Angels, Athletics Mercado, Breakers Labs Win Brackets at Alliance Super Cup

CORONA ANGLES 18U-TYSON WINS BATTLE OF CALIFORNIA AT 18U SUPER CUP

The battle between So Cal and NorCal is just heating up between Inland Empire-based Corona Angels-Howard and Bay Area-based Warrior Academy-McDonald. Marty Tyson‘s Corona Angels took this round.

The Corona Angels came out of the loser’s bracket and beat Warrior Academy twice, 7-2 and 9-1, in the finals to win Bracket 1 at Stage 2 of the Triple Crown Alliance Super Cup on Sunday at Canyon Sports Park. The Angels lost to Warrior Academy, 2-1, in the opening round of bracket play on Saturday.

With the two wins, the Angels punched their ticket to the Alliance Super Cup Series finals June 28-29 in Aurora, CO.

The Corona Angels got things started with a 16-0 victory over Firecracker Brashear/Smith on Sunday in the loser’s bracket.

“Sunday, all the phases of a championship team came together,” Tyson said. “Our pitchers were strong all weekend. (Biola-bound P) Kayla Bousquette and (Arizona State-bound P) Kylee Magee combined to pitched a shutout to get the first win of day Sunday. After only scoring one run in three games Saturday, our offense exploded for 16 runs in the first game. (Oregon-committed 2023 OF) Ayanna Shaw, (Southern Utah-committed 2023 C) Kassidy Munoz, (Nebraska-bound IF) Katelyn Caneda, (2023 OF) Taralyn Ollison and (LMU-bound 1B Isabelle) ‘Izzy’ Jamgotchian all had two hits (apiece). (Oklahoma State-bound IF) Claire Timm ripped an RBU double to get us on the board in the first.”

Then came the two wins over Ray McDonald’s Warrior Academy in the finals.

“In the ‘if’ game, senior Kylee Magee pitched five innings with nine strikeouts in the 9-1 win,” Tyson said “Ayanna Shaw and (Cal-bound IF) Elon Butler got hits in the first and (Houston-committed 2023 OF Mikalah) ‘KK’ Nitta hit a three-run homer to set the tone early. (Eastern Kentucky-bound OF) Jaelin Haynes and Elon Butler had RBIs in the second inning. Taralyn Ollison and Kassidy Munoz had hits. The Angels move on to Stage 3.”

ATHLETICS MERCADO-SMITH CONTINUES DOMINATION AT 18U SUPER CUP

Athletics Mercado-Smith probably had the hardest bracket in the tournament with game against OC Batbusters-Stith and Firecrackers Brashear in Bracket 2 of Stage 2 in the Triple Crown Alliance Super Cup on Sunday at Canyon Sports Park.

But Athletics Mercado-Smith, the defending Alliance 18U national champion, knocked off OC Batbusters-Stith , 6-4, in the semifinals and Firecrackers Brashear, 8-1, in the finals to win the bracket and punch their ticket to the Alliance Super Cup in the summer.

“We definitely had the toughest bracket with Stith and Brashear, two really good teams,” Athletics coach Mark Smith said.

“Stith was another close, good game,” Smith said. “We jumped out on them 4-0 helped by home run by (Florida-bound SS) Kaila Pollard on the first. They tied it up, then in the bottom of the sixth, (UCLA-bound SS) Jordan Woolery hit an absolute bomb to go up by two.”

North Carolina State-bound P/OF Rylee Wyman started and got the win and got the win against Batbusters-Stith and 2024 P/DP Cambria Salmon recorded the save.

Cal Baptist-bound P Presley Hosick “got the start against Firecrackers Brashear and was lights out the entire game and all weekend.” She threw six shutout inning vs. Firecrackers Brashear.

Woolery batted .500 with a homer, a double and four RBIs for the weekend, Arizona State-committed 2023 1B Mya Perez hit .500 with a homer, a double and five RBIs, 2024 Persey Llamas hit .455 with a double and three RBIs and Hosick struck out 10 in 12 innings and allowed zero earned runs.

BREAKERS LABS BEATS FIRECRACKERS-RICO TWICE TO WIN 18U TITLE

Breakers Labs 18U Gold-Bobby won two of three games over Firecrackers-Rico en route to winning the Bracket 3 18U title in Stage 2 of the Triple Crown Alliance Super Cup on Sunday in Lake Elsinore.

Bobby Labs’ Breakers beat Tony Rico’s Firecrackers, 2-0, in the semifinals, then lost to the Firecrackers, 9-5, in the finals before rallying to knock off the Firecrackers, 4-3, in the “if” game to qualify for the Alliance Super Cup Series finals in June.

The Breakers got excellent pitching from Cal State Fullerton-bound P Leanna Garcia (22.2 IP, 14 Ks, 2.70 ERA). The offense featured 2023 SS Jazmine Williams (.562 AVG, 1 HR, 3 doubles), 2023 2B Emily Quintero (.400 AVG, .538 OBP, 1 doubles, 3 BBs) and UC Davis-bound OF Mikaela Buscemi (.312 AVG, .353 OBP, 1 BB).

ROSTER-CHALLENGED CORONA ANGELS PULL OUT 16U SUPER CUP WIN

Corona Angels 16U-Slye was down to 12 players 0n its roster and missing four starters for Stage 2 of the Triple Crown Alliance Super Cup this past weekend at Rosetta Canyon Park in Lake Elsinore, CA.

But Dena Slye’s Corona Angels managed to beat Warrior Academy-Jimenez, 5-4, in the “if” game to win Bracket 1 and qualify for the Super Cup Series finals June 28-29 in Aurora, CO.

“I don’t even know how we won,” Slye said in a text message. “I only had 12 players all weekend.”

The Corona Angels beat USA Athletics Gold-Rogers/Gunnar, 3-1, in the semifinals, then lost to Warrior Academy, 5-4, in Game 1 of the finals. The Corona Angels rallied from a 4-0 deficit to beat Warrior Academy, 5-4, in the second game.

2024 P Stefini Ma’ake had two big wins in the circle and 2024 P Kassandra Gerwecke won the third game against Warrior Academy.

2024 2B/SS Aleena Garcia and 2024 SS/2B Corina “Coco” Jaimes led the Angels’ offense all weekend. Garcia batted .571 with eight hits, two doubles, four runs and two RBIs and Jaimes batted .357 with two runs.

FIRECRACKERS BRASHEAR CRUISES TO 16U SUPER CUP VICTORY

Firecrackers-Brashear, which already qualified for AFCS 2 this summer, beat Warriors Academy-Jimenez/McDonald, 8-0, in the semifinals and Corona Angels-FTS, 8-3, in the finals to win 18U Bracket 2 and qualify for the Super Cup Series finals in June.

Uncommitted 2023 RHP/1B Emily McCoskey, #62 in the 2023 Extra Elite 100, has developed into Coach Sean Brashear’s top pitcher.

“I love when Sean needs his best pitcher,” said McCoskey, the Valle Vista League MVP who carries a 4.5 GPA at Diamond Ranch High in California. “He calls for me to take the circle and recognizes that when we are playing on the big stage that I truly want the ball in my hand. Having a coach like Sean Brashear’s trust to get it done is a big honor at this point in my softball career.”

HOVERMALE’S ATHLETICS DOMINATE 16U SUPER CUP

Athletics Mercado 16U-Hovermale, which has already qualified for 16U AFCS 2 outscored their opponents, 39-7, en route to winnning Bracket 3 in 16U and qualifying for the Super Cup Series finals this summer.

Rick Hovermale’s Athletics defeated Athletics Mercado-Cook, 2-1, in the semifinals and Firecrackers Brashear/Smith, 15-1, in the finals.

The Athletics were led by 2025 OF Dakota Potter (.714, 6 RBIs), 2024 SS/2B Xiane Romero (.667, 8 runs, 7 RBIs) and 2024 1B Mackenzie Butt (.500, 5 RBIs) on offense.

In the circle, 2023 P Cece Tirado had 18 Ks in 15 innings and gave up one earned run and 2024 P Trinity Robinson had a 1.27 ERA and allowed two earned runs in 11 innings for the Athletics.

KATIE STITH’S TEAM WINS BATTLE OF THE BATBUSTERS 14U TITLE AT SUPER CUP

OC to win the Bracet Batbusters-K. Stitch won two games against OC Batbusters-Coyle to win the 14U Bracket 1 title at Stage 2 of the Triple Crown Super Cup on Sunday at Summerly Community Park. With the victory, Katie Stith’s Batbusters qualified for the Super Cup Series finals later this summer.

Batbusters-K. Stith beat OC Batbusters-Coyle, 6-3, in the semifinals and rallied to beat Batbusters-Coyle, 7-6, in the finals.

“In the final game, we were down, 5-0, in the first inning and came back to win 7-6,” Stith said. “The girls didn’t get overwhelmed, they just kept swinging the bat to chip away at the deficit and came back to win. Being the first week back in action after break, we weren’t super sharp, but I am proud on their will to compete and continue to develop as a team.”

Offensively, 2025 1B/3B Alyssa Grajeda batted .643 wit three doubles, 2026 OF/2B/SS Grace Maguire hit .385 wit three doubles and 2026 SS/3B Maddy Arnmendariz batted .333 with five RBIs.

2025 RHP Paityn Lavin had a 1.29 ERA and 14 strikeouts in 16 innings.

“She had a great weekend on the mound and finished with a save in the final game, throwing 1.1 innings,” Stith said of Lavin.

ATHLETICS MERCADO 2025-TIDD PULL OFF ‘IF’ WIN IN 14U SUPER CUP FINALS

Firecrackers Brashear/Thornburg 2025 took Athletics Mercado 2025-Tidd the distance, but the Athletics pulled out the victory to win Bracket 2 in Stage 2 of the Triple Crown Alliance Super Cup on Sunday at Summerly Community Park.

The Athletics beat Firecrackers Brashear/Thornburg, 6-1, in the semifinals before losing to the Firecrackers, 5-4, in the first game of the finals. The Athletics came back and beat the Firecrackers, 10-2, to claim the title in the “if” game and punch their ticket to the Alliance Super Cup Series finals later this summer.

The Athletics were led by 2025 CF Taelyn Holley (.533 AVG, .588 OBP, 9 RBIs) and 2026 LHP Aviana Valbuena (7.1 IP, 94 pitches, 3 hits, 2 BBs, 0.00 ERA) all weekend.

CORONA ANGELS 14U-TYSON WINS THIRD TITLE FOR CORONA ANGELS ORG

The Corona Angels organization won three titles at Stage 2 of the Triple Crown Alliance Super Cup, including Corona Angels 14U-Tyson’s undefeated run to the Bracket 3 title in the 14U Division at Summerly Community Park.

The Angels went 5-0 for the weekend, including a 5-3 win over OC Batbusters-Lastrapes/Sasaki in the semifinals and a 4-3 win over OC Batbusters-Lastrapes/Sasaki in the finals.

2025 SS/3B Bri Alejandre went 7 for 12 with two walks and 2025 C/IF Ashley Duran was 6 for 12 with two RBIs to lift the Angels’ offense.

The Corona Angels dominated in the circle with 2026 P Montserrat Reyes-Cardenas allowing zero runs and three hits in 13 innings and 2026 P Peyton May allowing two earned runs in 10 innings.
