Club Spotlight: OC Batbusters-Serrano… So Cal-Based 14U Team Qualifies for 16U Nationals!

The 2021 OC Batbusters – Serrano 14U team is good enough to have qualified for Nationals… at 16U!

Note: on Monday, March 10, 2021, Extra Inning Softball will launch the Extra Elite Eighty 14U Club Rankings.

One team to keep an eye on is the OC Batbusters – Serrano team coached by Gerry Serrano, who also keeps busy as the President of the Santa Ana (Calif.) Police Officers Association.

Here’s more on this loaded 14U team which is already making waves not just at its age division, but a level or two up as well!

The OC, Batbusters – Serrano 14U team from Southern California has been making a name for itself and is one of the top teams in Southern California to watch.

Recently, this Batbusters team qualified for the National Alliance Championship Series in the 16U Division, shocking many in the Southern California travel ball circuit for its ability to dominate on top teams an age division up.

Because of the squad’s impressive play of late with quality victories against some of the top teams around the nation at 14U, the Batbusters also received invites to Triple Crown Nationals and the Top Club National Championship in Oklahoma where some of the top teams in the country received special invites to battle in a 30-team championship cash purse tournament.

What makes this Batbusters team one to watch? One word, according to Coach Serrano: “cohesiveness.”

The strong infield includes (l-r) Nevaeh Trejo, Kaniya Bragg, Gianna Serrano, Madylyn Wynia.

The core of this talented group has been in sync since 8U softball, coming out of the West Garden Grove Softball recreation league which is rich in tradition and historic talent with famous alums including the likes of Tony Mascarenes, Alyssa Palomino and Nicole Dewitt.

The current 14U – Seranno team was built strong up the middle and is centered around its offensive prowess with team leader Kaniya Bragg at shortstop, Gianna Serrano at second base, Kayli Counts in centerfield, an elite level catcher in Soraya “Raya” Leuta and a fearless third baseman in Nevaeh Trejo.

This core has been together since its inception and Coach Seranno knows he’s got a good thing going with this group.

“It has been an absolute amazing treasure to see this crew develop and stay together,” he begins, “building not only a top-level team, but lifelong memories which nowadays is lost with the ever so fluid movement of athletes going between travel ball teams.”

“These kids are a testament to loyalty, determination, and love for the game.”

For those baseball fans old enough remember the era in the 1970’s and 80’s when the Los Angeles Dodgers had the longest running infield in baseball history with first baseman Steve Garvey, second baseman Davey Lopes, shortstop Bill Russell and third baseman Ron Cey, they can relate to how impressive the talent and consistency was with the Dodger Blue infield back then.

“That’s the beauty that comes with this homegrown talent, chemistry, and development,” adds Coach Serrano, “when a team feeds off of each other like a well-oiled machine. That is this team.”
