Taylor Borovac makes the stretch to record the out for her South High team, which won the state title last year.

Working together with College Bound JocksExtra Inning Softball is spotlighting CBJ Players of the Month including those who have signed, committed and those who are on their way (not yet committed)!

Today, for March 2023’s uncommitted spotlight, we feature Taylor Borovac, a talented junior infielder from Blue Springs (Mo.) South High who is coming off a 1st place finish at State for her Jaguars softball team last year after finishing 3rd in 2021.

Her stock is rising after her highlight video was sent out to several D1 programs recently including one who wants her to visit their campus this Spring.

Her travel ball coach, Eric Jones of Select Fastpitch 06, loves what Taylor brings to any team she’s on, both on the field and off.

“She’s a very versatile player,” Coach Jones begins. “Taylor is going to be a great addition to our Select Salazar 16U team from the left side of the plate and can play middle infield as well as outfield.   Her work ethic and personality are second to none. Additionally, she’s a very well-rounded athlete and person who fits our culture perfectly.”

Brian Chidester of College Bound Jocks believes that the versatile athlete has the mental and physical tools to play at a high level.

“Taylor‘s biggest attributes are her speed and quickness,” he begins. “She’s fast on the bases and, on defense, she has extremely quick hands and feet.”

“Taylor has a high softball IQ and will definitely elevate the level of play of any college team she plays for. She is an extremely athletic infielder; however, her speed also makes her a solid option in the outfield.”

Here’s more on the player whose versatility allows her to play any spot in the infield and outfield…

Player: TAYLOR BOROVAC

What would you say—if you’re scouting yourself—are your strengths on the softball field?
I am a multi-dimensional athlete (utility) able to play multiple positions and I have a lot of speed.

What is your favorite softball memory?
We were in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and had a five-hour lightning delay that had pushed our game to a 11:30 pm start! We didn’t finish until almost 2:00 am but it was one of my favorite games that summer.  I love playing under the lights!

Do you have any softball superstitions?
My hair has to look good for me to play well.

Taylor (left) with Allie Braly, who signed with St. Francis University and was the CBJ February Player of the Month (Signed).

What is the funniest thing you have ever seen happen on a softball field?
When our pitcher couldn’t read the signs, she would yell “YOLO” (“You only live once”) before she pitched, hoping for the best.!

If you could meet anyone in the softball world, who would it be?
This is hard for me to answer because I have been able to meet so many amazing athletes, including Sue Enquist, Amanda Chidester, Sam Fisher, Kelsey Stewart, Lauren Chamberlain and many more.

What is one thing you have learned from a coach that will always stay with you?
My South High School Coach Kristi Williams always tells us: “Be where your feet are,” meaning be in the moment, don’t worry about the past or the future. Focus on the right here and right now.

What factors have helped your recruiting process the most?
I would say it’d be having great support surrounding me.  College Bound Jocks has been a great resource for me, and Brian Chidester, and Brian May have been a huge support always encouraging and really answer any questions or sometimes doubts I might have.  Eric Jones, my club coach, has also been a rock for me during this process and has helped me navigate things by being very calm, and encouraging… like telling me that “the right fit will come along.”

Who is your hero and why?
My Mom is my hero without question. She is my No. 1 supporter and has stuck me through the highs and the lows. She is the most loving human being, I couldn’t thank her enough for always putting me first even when she has a full plate to carry.

Si Robertson, who became a breakout TV personality on A&E’s hit Duck Dynasty.

What other activities/hobbies do you enjoy outside of softball?
I enjoy fishing, shopping and working out.

If you could have dinner with anyone (dead or alive), who would it be and why?
I would like to have dinner with Si Robertson (“Uncle Si” from the TV show Duck Dynasty) because I feel him and I would just get a long great.

What is your favorite quote or motto?
“Person > Player.” Coach Williams came up with this motto for our team and I will be taking this with me for the rest of my softball career. This is always a reminder to never be so hard on myself and that I am so much more than just a softball player.
