The 2019 regular season has now ended for a number of teams across the country, as conference tournaments are set to debut this week, and only a select few leagues have an extra weekend of conference play thanks to the absence of a tournament for their respective conferences.
Though it’s sure to be a full week of softball as the postseason officially begins, we can’t look toward tournament time without hitting on the highlights of action from week 13.
While controversy marred what should have been a great series between the Dawgs and Ole Miss – controversy to the tune of some twenty illegal pitches and several questionable out-of-the-box calls – the Bulldogs ended the weekend with the series sweep, their first of the season.
The UGA pitching staff allowed just a single earned run on the weekend, quieting a hard-hitting Rebel offense and riding high as they head to the SEC tournament in College Station next week.
North Carolina State Wolfpack
The Wolfpack ended their regular season in style, handing Louisville their only series sweep of the season.
A trio of one-run victories also handed the Wolfpack a berth in the conference tournament in Jennifer Patrick-Swift’s first season as head coach.
The weekend was highlighted by an 11-inning affair in the middle game of the series on Saturday, a 7-6 final score thanks to a walk-off home run by Wolfpack shortstop April Visser in the bottom of the 11th.
