Event Recap: OK Diamond Girls Capture Two Titles at USA Softball of Oklahoma Memorial Day Tournament (May 24, 2020)

Oklahoma Diamond Girls 03 were the USA Softball of Oklahoma Memorial Day 16U Tournament champions.

It was a big weekend for the Oklahoma Diamond Girls organization at the USA Softball of Oklahoma Memorial Day Tournament at Arrowhead Park in Broken Arrow, OK.

Oklahoma Diamond Girls 03 went undefeated (4-0) in pool play on Saturday and (4-0) in bracket play on Sunday, culminating with a 5-2 victory over Originals KC 16U-Niemeyer in the 16U finals.

Jessica Watson went 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI, Keely Ibarra went 2 for 2 with a double and an RBI and Bailey Ross went 1 for 2 with an RBI to lead Diamond Girl 03’s offense.

Sage Smith, a 2022 RHP, pitched four innings of scoreless relief, allowing one hit, no walks and striking out eight to pick up the victory.

“We had a really good weekend against some very good competition, going 8-0,” Diamond Girls 03 coach Jeff Allen said. “Saige Smith, a 2022 junior to be from Broken Arrow High, led the way on the mound, notching five of our eight wins, three of those wins in relief.  She struck out 30 in 18 2/3 innings and was dominant with a 0.75 ERA.  Faith Russell, a 2022 from Jenks High hit .714  on the weekend, going 10 for 14 at the plate.  Monica Franklin, a 2023 from Union High, and Keely Ibarra, a 2021 from Hilldale High, both hit over .500 on the weekend.  Jessica Watson, a 2021 from Jenks High, drove in eight runs with three doubles and a home run out of her seven hits.  McKayla Carney, a 2021 Broken Arrow High and a Missouri State commit, went 8 for 17 with six walks. ”

Oklahoma Diamond Girls 02 blew bases-loaded situations in the top of the sixth and seventh innings before exploding for five runs in the top of the eighth to pull out a 7-3 victory over Prodigy Easton Elite 18U-Glause in the 18U championship game.

Lead-off hitter Kennedy Cramer went 2 for 4 with a double, a homer and two runs scored, Makayla Galliart went 1 for 3 with an RBI, Jackie Zaferes went 1 for 1 with a double and two runs scored, Karleigh Rote went 2 for 4 with a run scored and two RBIs and Keittan Bell went 1 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI to power the Diamond Girls 03 offense.

Jordan Pipkin allowed four hits, no earned runs and struck out three in 3.2 innings of relief to pick up the victory.
