Oklahoma remains atop the Extra Inning Softball Top 25 poll for the sixth consecutive week. Virginia Tech and UCLA also continue in the #2 and #3 overall positions after all three teams recorded unbeaten performances in Week 6.
Northwestern climbs to their highest ranking of the season at #4 overall, following a weekend that included wins over Missouri and Stanford. The Wildcats are currently riding a 9-game winning streak.
Despite beating Alabama in a midweek contest last week, Florida State stays put at #6 overall after dropping a game in their weekend series against Boston College. The Crimson Tide, who won the series from Kentucky but dropped a game to the Wildcats and the game to FSU, come in at #7 in the poll.
UCF moves into its highest ranking of the year at #16 in the poll; the Knights swept a 3-game series against Furman this weekend but were one of only a handful of Top 25 teams to not record a loss on the week. UCF also beat Ohio State in a midweek contest on Tuesday.
Speaking of Ohio State, the Buckeyes stood firm in the Top 25 despite losing a pair of games on their trip to Florida. The Buckeyes did win two of their three matchups against South Florida – losing only to Georgina Corrick.
Arizona was swept at UCLA and Washington lost their PAC-12 series to Cal, but both teams remain in the Top 25 based on their overall resumes, though both fell in this week’s rankings after their disappointing performances.
New to this week’s poll are three teams: Arizona State jumps back in, coming in at #18 overall, while Texas also returns to the poll on a 5-game winning streak that included a three-game sweep of LSU. Wisconsin is also ranked for the first time this season; the Badgers have played a tough schedule in non-conference and swept a three-game series with Utah last week.
The SEC leads all leagues with seven teams in this week’s Top 25 poll, while the PAC-12 checks in with five teams representing and the Big 10 and ACC each place four teams in the poll. The Big 12 (3), American (1), and Conference USA (1) round out the represented leagues in the Week 6 Top 25.
