Extra Inning Softball’s National High School Player of the Week

* Madison Inscoe, the junior pitcher/infielder who was initially known for her pitching skills and has committed to Auburn, has shown she is not just a one-trick pony.

Madison picked up right where she left off after her 2019 State Championship season this week as she stepped back on the clay with her Nansemond Suffolk Academy (NSA) Softball team and delivered another week of standout performances.

Madison impressed with her glove in the field as well as with her hitting and pitching.

The 2022 grad, who lives in Virginia and travels on Josh Fisher’s #6th ranked travel ball team, Mojo 04, didn’t fail to impress in the circle as expected as Madi threw three shutout pitching performances with 28 strikeouts in 12 innings and allowed just two hits with no walks.

At the plate, Madison had four home runs, batted .800 on the week with a .818 on-base percentage and compiled a 1.56 slugging percentage.

Working on her all-around game, she played more innings at shortstop than pitcher where she had seven putouts and didn’t committing an error.

Madison told Extra Inning Softball earlier today:

“This past week has been one of the best weeks I have had since I started Varsity in 8th grade. After missing our entire 2020 season to COVID, I came out this season wanting to do everything I could to help this team defend our 2019 state title and to win it again this year.”

“We lost some of our key seniors after 2020, so this is a different team, but still a team with a lot of talent.  Being a Junior I wanted to step up my game to help fill some of experience we lost. I am trying to be a leader and set an example on the mound, in the middle infield and on offense for the newer players.”

“This week showed me that this team is still very good, and this team still has a lot of fight. Our plan is to win our conference and to bring home another state championship to NSA.”

To review…

  • Pitching: no runs allowed in three shutouts.
  • Hitting: batting .800 with four dingers
  • Defense: no errors plus this impressive unassisted double play (love the accompanying music too!):

Not a bad week all-around to give the Virginia resident our nod for Extra Inning Softball National Player of the Week honors!

Runner-Up National Players of the Week
Kendall Klochack reached her 500th career strikeout last week.

* Kendall Klochack, a 2021 P/1B for Grand Blanc (Michigan) High, had a great start to her senior season after losing her entire junior season due to COVID.

On the mound she tossed two no-hitters and recorded a save, throwing 16 innings with 37 K’s and gave up just two hits and two walks.

At the plate she hit .533 with five RBIs and hit a home run with two doubles and was walked intentionally three times. She also had a .611 on-base percentage with a 1.478 OPS.

Saviya Morgan is using her speed to rank nationally in steals.

Kendall is headed to Purdue and during her game last Thursday hit a milestone, recording her 500th career strikeout.

* Saviya Morgan, a 2024 outfielder for Columbia Central High in Columbia, Tennessee, is having a huge year thanks to her dynamic speed which has translated into great stats across the board.

Last week she was 8-for-10 from the plate with 16 stolen bases and seven RBIs in just three games.

For the year, Saviya is hitting .692 in 13 games with a stellar .739 on-base percentage.

She is 1st in the state of Tennessee and 3rd in the nation in steals (51) per MaxPreps and is 4th in batting average and on-base percentage while

Honorable Mention National Players of the Week
Madison Knight

* Madison Knight, a junior P/IF at Patterson Mill (Bel Air, Maryland) High, pitched two games last week, the first being a 13-K two-hit shutout and the other a 5-inning perfect game with 11 K’s.

Offensively she went 7-for-9 with three doubles, a home run and seven RBIs as part of her great week that culminated with Madison being named the South Region MaxPreps / NFCA National High School Player of the Week.

She has also helped her team get out to a 5-0 start and the team has scored 49 in those games and hasn’t given up a run yet.
