With the new 2023 Extra Elite 100 dropping in a few weeks on Extra Inning Softball–the launch begins July 13!– right-hander Lexie Warncke of Texas Bombers 14U Gold-Jones has the look of a player that could be moving up the ladder.
Warncke has garnered a lot of interest from Power 5 and D1 colleges and she has attended or been invited to several elite camps such as Texas, Texas A&M, Washington and LSU among others.
“Lexie has been with us for a few years now and in that time she has gone from being pretty good to being pretty special and one of the most elite arms in the 2023 class,” Bombers coach Steve Jones said. “She has all the qualities of the most elite pitchers: She has great command of her pitches and that improves every week; she has exceptional spin resulting in some of the most attractive break measurements in her movement pitches; and she now cruises in the 61-63 mph range (and has touched numbers north of that).
“’Sug’ changes speeds at will and works on the typical repertoire of pitches—fast, curve, rise, drop, screw and change. However, her bread and butter are a big-bending curve, a very jumpy rise and a great ability to change speeds, all of which create a lot of swings and misses. Her cool demeanor is also quite useful when she occasionally encounters any trouble, as it takes a lot more than the typical to rattle her.”
Warncke’s teammates say she is selfless and one of the hardest workers on the team.
“Lexie is one of the best pitchers I have caught for,” 2024 C America Ramirez said. “She is very consistent with her pitches. She pitches around 61-63 mph and all her balls have movement. What makes Lexie unique is that when she is pitching, she is also one of the loudest on the field. She is one of the hardest-working girls on the team and she is selfless.”
Warncke is not just a talented pitcher, but she’s also one of the top hitters on the team.
“Lexie is an amazing teammate on and off the field,” 2023 OF Moriah Polar said. “She brings a ray of sunshine to the dugout. Her versatility ranges from playing shortstop, pitcher and even in the outfield when called upon.”
“Lexie has proven to be very hard-working as she has grown tremendously this past year,” Polar continues. “She has become one of the top pitchers in 14U and I love the fact that we can always depend on her. I really enjoy having her as a teammate.”
