Extra Star Power: UCLA-Signed Senior Megan Grant… Intensely Focused, She Does What It Takes to Win (Just Ask the Ump Who Got In Her Way!)

Senior Megan Grant is a Top 5-ranked player from Northern California who does it all well on the field and is headed to UCLA.

Megan Grant is a three-way star at Aragon (California) High in softball, volleyball and basketball, but the UCLA-bound SS/C/OF really shined for the West Bay Warriors where she led the travel ball organization to a 16U Tier 1 Alliance national title this past summer.

Olivia DiNardo plays with Megan on the Warriors and at Aragon High, but the two will be rivals in the Pac-12 next year.

Arizona-bound C/1B Olivia DiNardo knows Grant, who has a career average of .544 at Aragon High, very well being teammates with her both in high school and in travel ball.

“I’ve been playing with Megan since the 8th grade and what makes her so unique is her personality and drive to be the best,” said DiNardo, #7 in the 2022 Extra Elite 100.

“Megan has this intense focus that allows her to excel in any part of her game, and her work ethic is unmatched. We go to high school together and I would be just leaving our batting cage and she would just be walking in and it’s every day she’s there.”

“She writes quotes on our white board to keep us motivated throughout the long travel ball season and it just proves the type of person she is. To describe her skills on the field is difficult to do because she does it all, from diving plays to towering home runs and she’s one of the best teammates around.”

As good of a player that Grant, #2 in the 2022 Extra Elite 100, is, she’s an even better teammate.

“Megan is a beast and she brings so much intensity to the field,” said Nebraska-bound OF Talia Tokheim of the Warriors, #44 in the 2022 Extra Elite 100. “She always pushes everyone to get better and her work ethic is unmatched.”

Tell us about the West Bay Warriors and how you became involved with them?
Coming from baseball, my family and I didn’t know anything about travel softball teams and we honestly didn’t know where to go and/or who to be with because we had no information. However, my brothers’ friend knew a team that I could go to and said that they were competitive and looking for more players. I didn’t really know what to think of softball, so it didn’t really matter to me where I went. I went out to one of their practices and the rest was history.

What were some of the training methods and workouts you did to stay busy during the stay-at-home orders because of the COVID situation?
Since the place where I usually go to work out wasn’t open anymore due to COVID, I decided to make a weight room in my house, so I used the garage as a place to get better. Also, where I live is by parks so I used to go there to get some work in.
