Heather Johnson is a junior pitcher/first baseman from Lafayette, Indiana who was selected to the 2021 Extra Elite 100 earlier this year and plays for the Indiana Magic Gold 16U team coached by John Lamar.
In the circle, Heather throws a fastball in the mid-to-upper 60s, a change (her out pitch), drop curve, screwball, and a rise ball and, being from the Midwest, she knows how to pitch in cold weather which will benefit her at the next level.
Last week, she committed to Indiana University and, in this Inside Pitch, explains that she had offers from mid-major schools before the recruiting rules changed in April, 2018.
“After a lot of thought and agony, I decided to wait it out and keep training to see if I would get an offer from my dream school and it paid off!”
Here’s more on this Midwest standout and how she ended up becoming a Hoosier commit…

The first thing that comes to mind (about the recruiting process) is that the recruiting rule change was kind of tough to go through because I had some good momentum before the rule went into place.
However, in hindsight, it really helped me mature as a person and think about what I wanted to do academically with my college career.
