Texas State’s Jessica Mullins Named Extra Inning Softball Player of the Week

Texas State pitcher Jessica Mullins has been named the Extra Inning Softball Player of the Week for her efforts during Week 5 of the Division 1 softball season.

Mullins was 2-1 on the weekend, with a 1.11 ERA and wins over top-15 opponents Alabama and Texas.

In a nine-inning game against Wisconsin to start the weekend, Mullins went the distance, allowing just five hits and four runs, though none of the runs were earned. She notched 11 strikeouts as the hard-luck loser against the Badgers.

Against Alabama in her second appearance of the weekend, Mullins threw a 7-inning complete game, limiting the Crimson Tide to just two hits and one run – this one earned – with a walk and eight strikeouts to her credit. She threw just 89 pitches in a dominant win over the Tide.

Closing the weekend tournament, Mullins took the circle against hosting Texas and again threw an extra-inning complete game en route to a big win. She gave up the most hits of her weekend to the Longhorns, ten in total, and allowed four runs, three of them earned. She struck out three and induced 11 flyouts and 12 groundouts in the game.

Across three weekend appearances, Mullins collected 25 innings pitched, struck out 22, and allowed just four earned runs.
