One of the best softball-related events annually—shoot, one of the best events for ALL young female athletes, regardless of sport—over the last half decade has been the Empowering Girls for Life conference that features amazing speakers with great stories and life lessons to share.
Last year, for example, we heard from NCAA Div. I championship-winning coaches Patty Gasso and Carol Hutchins as well as legendary women’s basketball Hall of Famer Dawn Staley, female boxing champion Alycia Baumgardner and even an astronaut trainee, Alyssa Carson, who hopes to one day travel to Mars!

The first two years of the event were in-person, but—because of COVID concerns—the EGFL series went virtual over the last three years.
That, however, will change as the 2023 edition will be held in-person at The Westin Chicago Lombard Hotel on Saturday, August 12th as well as once again be streamed online live for FREE.

Bill Conroy, the founder and CEO of the event as well as the long-time head of the title-winning Beverly Bandits travel ball organization, believes this year’s EGFL is once again an event not to be missed.
“We have a terrific group of speakers,” Conroy explained, “and, this year, we have added the woman-owned social media company, Era Marketing, to our already amazing marketing team to boast the reach of this incredible non for profit, 501 C3 cause.”
This year’s panel of speakers includes highly accomplished women who are great role-models for the upcoming generations of female athletes (listed alphabetically by last name):
- Jordy Bahl, the All-American softball player and NCAA D1 National Champion at the University of Oklahoma
- Rachel Chen, Chicago’s top fashion blogger and digital influencer
- Ellie Cooper, a Certified Mental Performance Coach and Director of Player Performance at Florida State University softball
- Kate Drohan, Head Coach at Northwestern University, BIG 10 Champions and World Series finalist in 2022
- Cory Huminsky, cancer survivor, who went on the pitch D1 at the University of Pittsburgh and scaled Mt. Kilimanjaro,
- Julianna Sitch, a former professional soccer player who became the first woman in NCAA history to lead a men’s team to a national championship in 2022.
