Former Texas infielder JJ Smith is transferring to Texas State, she announced on Saturday.
“San Mo you ready for this??” Smith wrote on Twitter, addressing Bobcat fans in San Marcos.
Smith was selected for the Big 12’s All-Freshman team in 2021, a unanimous choice for the honor after posting a .319 batting average, eight doubles, 13 RBIs, and a .964 OPS as a rookie.
During the 2022 season, Smith posted a .282 batting average with two home runs and 13 RBIs. She appeared in 42 games on the year, starting 26 of them. Part of the Longhorns’ starting lineup during their full Women’s College World Series run, Smith hit safely in five of seven games, including both games of the national championship series against Oklahoma.
She joins a Texas State offense that batted .281 as a unit in 2022, including hitting 24 home runs and scoring 265 runs on the year.
