Kristy Norton has resigned as the head coach at UNC Wilmington, the school announced on Tuesday evening.

Norton’s departure comes just days after she led the Seahawks to the NCAA tournament and participated in the Clemson regional. It was the first postseason appearance of Norton’s decade-long tenure leading the program.

During her time at UNCW, Norton collected a 217-250-1 overall record, including a 66-107 mark in Colonial Athletic Association play. The Seahawks qualified for the CAA tournament three times during her tenure, including in back-to-back years in 2017-18, as well as this season.

In a statement, UNCW athletic director Jimmy Bass said, “We want to thank Kristy for her terrific guidance and leadership of the program. She has built UNCW softball into a championship-caliber program with top-notch student-athletes. While competing for championships, her teams also took pride in contributing to the betterment of our community.”

Prior to taking the reins at UNCW, Norton spent eight years on staff at James Madison and two years as an assistant coach at UNC Greensboro. She played at UNCG from 1999-2002 and set a Spartans team record for games started during her career.
