Mizzou Freshman Pitcher Cierra Harrison: Moving Forward in Memory of “Her Dad, Coach & No. 1 Fan”

Cierra Harrison, a 2022 high school grad, seen here pitching back in 2018 when she was already garnering national attention.

We at Extra Inning Softball knew early on that Cierra Harrison was a special talent.

Back in 2018, we published an Extra Star Power spotlight on the future Univ. of Missouri pitcher (you can read the entire story below).

Cierra in Nov. 2022 when she pitched for Aces Fastpitch.

Since that time, she has racked up all types of accolades including being honored as a 2022 Extra Inning Softball 1st Team High School All-Americans Pitcher last summer… here’s the bio from July of 2022:

Sr. Cierra Harrison, Lee’s Summit North (Lee’s Summit) MO
Cierra, ranked in the Top 20 (#16) of the 2022 Extra Elite 100, finished her high school career strongly as the right-hander led her Broncos team to the district finals. The Missouri signee ended her career earn 1st Team All-State for the third time as she went 20-7 with a 1.03 ERA and had an impressive 369 strikeouts in 176.1 innings (about 2.1 K’s per inning) and was impressive with the bat as she hit .345. The Gatorade State Player of the Year, she had a 3.9 GPA.

Additionally, Cierra was named to the Extra Inning Softball 18U All-Summer Team published in Sept. 2022… here’s the recap from that selection:

Cierra Harrison, 2022, RHP, Aces Fastpitch Club: The Missouri-bound right-hander was the Gatorade Missouri State Player of the Year and she helped Aces Fastpitch Club finish tied for ninth place at the 18U Alliance Nationals. She boasted a 1.70 ERA against the best teams in the country. She pitched 223 innings and had 293 strikeouts. She had 11 strikeouts against Nebraska Gold 18U, Fury Platinum X-Higdon, and Michigan Finesse 18U. She no-hit Firecrackers Brashear in the AFCS Super Regional match-up. Teams batted a .192 against her. She beat Firecrackers Brashear, Select Fastpitch-Jones 18U, Texas Glory-Shelton, Michigan Finesse, Iowa Premier multiple times, Fury Platinum X-Higdon and Indiana Magic Gold-Lamar.

She was also named as the No. 16 player in the 2022 Extra Elite 100 when it was updated and published for the final time in Nov. 2021… here’s the bio when she was named to that team:

T-16—Cierra Harrison, P, Aces Fastpitch (Missouri)
Cierra has solid velocity and is constantly tipping the gun around 64-to-66 mph. She loves to dominate hitters with her rise ball and backdoor curve and is also effective in getting batters to chase it through the zone. Cierra has a huge motor and, according to Coach Ryann Taylor: “is always willing to get dirty to make the play.” Cierra had a great Summer as she helped the 16U Aces tie for 1st at PGF Show Me the Money, 3rd at Team 1 Elite Invite, finish in the Top 4 at Top Club Nationals, 3rd at Sparkler/Fireworks, 1st at HFL Summer Championships and 9th at the AFCS Nationals. “CC” pitched 270 innings with an impressive 468 strikeouts and as a Junior, she helped her Lee’s Summit North (Missouri) High team finish 2nd in the state in the largest class.

This spring, though just a true freshman in the SEC, Cierra showed her great talents and potential as she produced an 8-2 record with 71 strikeouts in 66 innings and limited opposing batters to just a .197 batting average.

But it’s been a bittersweet success story as Cierra has had to deal with the tragic loss of her father who was also her “coach and No. 1 fan.’

This week, KMIZ ABC 17 News did a wonderful segment on the collegian’s journey and what her father meant to her… here’s that video clip that will, most likely, end up in you rooting for this talented student-athlete no matter what your favorite college softball team is.

Extra Star Power: 2022 Pitcher Cierra Harrison’s Stock On The Rise

Originally published Sept. 21, 2018 on Extra Inning Softball

Cierra Harrison has emerged as one of the most promising pitcher/hitters in the 2022 class.

The Class of 2022 is one full of tremendous talent and when we did the Extra Elite 100 rankings for the current freshman class one player who was right on the bubble was right-handed pitcher Cierra Harrison who plays for Bob Turner’s Top Gun Academy team out of Lee’s Summit, Missouri.

The Missouri pitcher went 29-9 this summer.

When the ’22 rankings are updated next, the freshman for the Lee’s Summit North Broncos will been under strong consideration to crack the top 100.

Cierra is quickly getting the attention of major Power 5 conference schools–one Women’s College World Series head coach attended one of her high school conference games this week (Missouri plays high school softball in the fall)–after she’s had a great summer and start to her fall.

Here’s a closer look at this talented athlete who is quickly making a case for herself as one of the top two-way athletes in her class…
