Extra Inning Softball National High School Player of the Week
After an outstanding week in the circle and at the plate, Jenna Edwards has been selected as the Extra Inning Softball National High School Player of the Week. Edwards plays for Carrollton High School in Carrollton, Mo.
Edwards helped lead Carrollton to the Class 2 Missouri Softball State Championship with a gutty performance in the circle. With the title, the Carrollton softball team became the first team in school history to win a state championship.
Carrollton earned their first-ever trip to the state Final Four in Springfield, Mo., with a dramatic 6-5 victory over Mid-Buchanan. The Trojans got a three-run home run from Beverly Molloy in the top of the seventh inning to take a 6-5 lead and Edwards closed things out in the circle to secure the victory.
The Trojans rode the pitching of Edwards to a 3-1 victory in the semifinals over South Harrison. Edwards went the distance and did not permit an earned run. She also had an RBI single at the plate.
Carrollton captured the state title with a 4-3 victory over Chaffee. Pitching her second game of the day, Edwards produced another complete game effort and stranded the tying run at third base in the seventh inning.
