Oklahoma Head Coach Patty Gasso to Make $1.625 Million with New Contract

The Oklahoma Board of Regents approved a new contract for head softball coach Patty Gasso on Thursday, a deal that will bump the Sooner head coach’s salary to a cool $1.625 million in 2023.

The new deal includes a base salary of $300,000, $825,000 coming from “private funds”, a $200,000 “stay bonus”, and $300,000 in supplemental retirement, per a report from Eric Bailey of the Tulsa World. The contract also keeps Gasso at the program’s helm through 2028.

Should OU win a third-consecutive national championship in 2023, Gasso would receive a $150,000 performance bonus.

The Sooners have won back-to-back national championships, including beating archrival Texas in the Women’s College World Series championship series to record their second straight title last season. Gasso owns a total of six national titles as the Sooners’ skipper, more than any active head coach.

Following the retirement of Michigan’s Carol Hutchins earlier in the fall, Gasso became the winningest active coach in Division 1 softball.

In a 2017 contract that made her the first softball coach known to make over $1 million in compensation, Gasso had a base salary of $280,000, as well as $220,000 for promotional and fundraising activities; $225,000 for personal services; and an annual retention bonus of $200,000. From 2018 through 2022, Gasso also annually received a $75,000 additional retention bonus.
