Orlando Salinas has been named the interim head coach at Texas A&M-Kingsville, the school announced on Thursday.
The Division II program hired Doug Eastman as head coach this summer following the departure of Craig Nicholson; according to a report from the Corpus Christi Caller Times on Friday afternoon, “a school spokesperson said Eastman is still employed by the school and is the program’s head coach but could not comment any further on personnel matters.”
Salinas had been a volunteer assistant coach at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. A graduate of Texas A&M-Kingsville, Salinas was part of the inaugural baseball roster at TAMUK, where he played for his father Hector Salinas. Orlando Salinas previously served as an assistant baseball coach for the Javelinas in 1998.
TAMUK started the 2023 season with a 2-4 record. Their second week of play was canceled last week, though the Javelinas are set to return to the field on Sunday, February 19th.
