Recruiting Spotlight: 2022 Texas Outfielder D’Auna Jennings… Despite Not Starting Club Ball Until 14U, She’s ACC-Bound!

Athletic Houston, Texas junior outfielder D’Auna Jennings has always wanted to leave Texas to attend college… and will be heading to the East Coast to study pre-med.

D’Auna Jennings is an exceptional athlete with the ability to adapt as she has proven throughout her softball career.

“I’ve been playing softball since I was about 5 years old,” she said. “I actually got a late start in playing competitive softball. I didn’t start playing until my first year of 14U. I was a right-handed hitter at the time!”

“When people said I should become a slapper, it seemed impossible! It was definitely a process, but I began to catch on pretty quick and I ended up being extremely successful at it. A huge thank you to my travel ball coach because he has developed my slapping tremendously!””

The speedy 2022 OF/slapper has excelled with Prolific Fastpitch 16U-Vaugn, which recently won the TFL Fall Championships to qualify for the inaugural Alliance Fastpitch Championship Series this summer.

“My recruiting journey started to take off at the end of my second year 14U,” Jennings said. “After I made the move to Prolific, that’s when it began to peak. That’s when I began to sharpen my tools and become an even better player overall.”

Jennings comes from a family that has been hit by breast cancer and her desire to be independent and leave Texas were some of the reasons she chose Duke.

“I chose to commit Duke, not only for the softball, but for the amazing academic opportunities,” Jennings said. “I have seen so many things Coach (Marissa) Young has done with the softball program. The programs they have for the major I wish to succeed in is amazing. The coaching staff is very easy to talk to, and each of them were able to provide advice for ANYTHING I asked for. Each of these factors led me to know that Duke was where I belong.”
