Paytn Monticelli, a 2022 right-handed pitcher from Cedarburg, Wisconsin, and member of the Beverly Bandits 18U – Holloway travel ball team, has an impeccable resume.
From Extra Inning Softball 1st Team All-American to Wisconsin Gatorade State Player of the Year to USA Today Wisconsin Softball Athlete of the Year to 1st Team All-State, Paytn has received just about every possible individual reward.
But there’s always been one dream she’s had since she was little: to become a member of the Wisconsin Badger softball program.
That dream came true a year ago at this time when Paytn committed to Coach Yvette Healy and staff, but the prodigious athlete—who set a school record with an amazing 293 strikeouts one season—hasn’t rested on her laurels.
This Summer, she was selected as an Extra Inning Softball 1st Team High School All-American… here’s what we wrote about Paytn in July when she was listed as a “Multi-Purpose” selection:

Patyn is a 6-foot-2 pitcher who was named this week by the Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association as the Division 1 player of the year. Also named the Gatorade State Player of the Year, she helped the Bulldogs make it to the state tournament for the first time in 17 years as she went 16-3 with a 0.69 ERA and recorded 293 strikeouts in 132 innings. Half of her 16 wins were shutouts and the Wisconsin Badger commit also was a threat at the plate as she hit .420 with seven home runs, 28 RBIs and a 1.208 OPS. Born in England to a military family, she moved to the United States when she was six months old and has found her niche in softball. Patyn is ranked as a Top 70 prospect in the 2022 Extra Elite 100.
As noted in the bio above, the Midwest senior was a Top 100 player when the most recent 2022 Extra Elite 100 list was released… and she’s sure to rise when the new rankings begin next week.
We caught up with Payn this week to get the latest looking back… and forward.

You have quite the impressive list of awards… what accomplishment or stat line makes you most proud and why?
I would say my Gatorade Wisconsin Player of the Year award would be one of my bigger accomplishments, the award acknowledges academic and athletic excellence. I would also say helping my high school team make it to the state tournament for the first time in 16 years is a huge team accomplishment. We had a strong run and will make another strong run again this year.
What have been some of your favorite highlights in your softball career so far?
Being recruited and committing to my No. 1 school, UW-Madison, to become a Badger and making it to the Wisconsin Division 1 high school state softball tournament for the first time in 16 years for our high school.
How did Wisconsin first find you to start recruiting you?
I had been going to their college camps since I was 12 years old, so they had known about me for a while.
