The Rogers State Hillcats are the 2022 Division 2 National Champions.
Rogers State entered Tuesday needing just one win to clinch the national title, following a 6-5 walk-off win in Game 1 of the championship series on Monday.
In Game 2 of the series on Tuesday, Cal State Dominguez Hills went up by a 1-0 score in the bottom of the first inning. Rogers State didn’t score through the first three innings but scored two runs in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Abbey Rogers.
Those runs would prove to be all that the Hillcats needed, though they added two more in each of the next two frames.
A 6-1 final score clinched the Game 2 win, the championship series sweep, and the national title for Rogers State.
For Rogers State, Tuesday’s victory capped an impressive postseason run that saw the Hillcats lose just once in the NCAA tournament. That stretch included a 5-0 showing in the World Series in Denver. Rogers State ends the 2022 season with a 58-10 overall record.
