Madison Harris has an older brother who is an alum of the University of Virginia, so it’s not a total shock she went to her home-state school, but it’s still a great signing for the Cavaliers who get an Extra Elite 100 pitcher and a nice fit for the 2020 standout who also helped the USA U-17 National Team win the Pan American Championship last month in Columbia.
The senior from Lynchburn, Virginia is an intimidating 6-foot-1 and throws heat with dramatic results, as shown by one game last year for Brookville High where she tossed a perfect game with every out–all 14 of them–being by strikeout.
Here’s how Madison spent a pretty enjoyable day on Wednesday making her college plans official surrounded by family and friends…

Where did you sign your Letter of Intent?
I signed my official NLI at home so I could email it back to UVA before I went to school. But my high school had our Signing Ceremony at 2:30pm that same afternoon.
Was it a big occasion or more low-key?
Sort of both… low-key at home in the morning and then a big occasion at school since four of us were signing.
Will did you do to celebrate the big day?
After the signing at my school we had cake and refreshments then we went out to dinner to celebrate.
What date did you actually commit to the Cavaliers and how long ago was it?
I was offered on December 1, 2017 of my sophomore year in high school and verbally committed the next day on December 2, 2017.
What highlight stands out to you about the recruiting process?
When I actually verbally committed.
What was the “aha” moment when you knew the program was the right one for you?
Meeting and talking to the coaches at my unofficial visit.
What did signing with your dream school mean to you personally and to those who’ve been part of your success (family, coaches, teammates, etc.)?
It’s been my Number 1 goal to play Division 1 softball at a Power 5 school since I started playing when I was little. My brother went to UVA and I fell in love with the school then. My family and teammates have always supported me and been my biggest fans. My parents have been with me every step of the way.
How much gear/product do you have of your future school?
I actually have quite a lot of UVA apparel since my brother is an alum from UVA.
What’s next for you and your softball plans this upcoming year?
I just want to get better day by day. My school team hopes we can make a run for states this final year. Then after graduation I’ll head to UVA to start summer classes and conditioning. I’m also hoping to be on Team USA to play for the World Cup.
Did you ever think that signing with your dream school would come?
No, but dreams do come true!
