Once again, the So Cal A’s Invitational was unable to crown a champion because a number of the teams had to catch flights back home or pulled out of the tournament after the quarterfinals.
Corona Angels-Tyson and Georgia Impact-Lewis were two of the last three teams left standing, so their showdown in the semifinals turned into the defacto championship on Sunday afternoon at Harvard Park in Irvine.
The odd team out was the PA Chaos, which beat Texas Glory 1-0 in ITB and topped the Bandits 5-4 to advance to the semis, but when the Batbusters pulls out of its semi-final game, it left Joe Spina and players as a team, ultimately, left standing with no one to play.
In the “unofficial” title contest, UCLA-commit Savannah Pola reached on an error to lead off the top of the sixth for the Angels. Pola advanced to second on Cal-bound Amani Bradley’s ground out, advanced to third on Washington-bound Madi Huskey’s ground out and scored on Washington-commit Sarah Willis’ single to center field to give the Corona Angels a 1-0 lead.
