Southern Miss Assistant Coach Mark Mulvany Resigns to Pursue Songwriting Career

Southern Miss assistant coach Mark Mulvany resigned his post on Tuesday, he announced on social media.

Mulvany spent the last three seasons on the Golden Eagles’ coaching staff, serving as the sole full-time assistant during his tenure. Those three years included a 65-62 overall record and a 29-23 overall record during the 2022 season.

He was to be the lone holdover for head coach Natalie Poole‘s inaugural staff at USM before departing his post.

“Today, I resigned from my coaching position at Southern Miss,” Mulvany wrote on Twitter. “About 10 months ago I decided that I was going to take one last shot at writing songs and for the last 9 months I found myself in an incredible position coaching D1 softball and also working as a full time songwriter. While stressful, I do know how lucky I am.

“But, a decision had to be made, because I wasn’t giving enough of myself to my family and there are still only 24 hours in a day. So, for that reason I have decided to step down so that I am more available and present in the way my wife and kids deserve. I’m not leaving softball and I look forward to interacting with everyone now and giving back to the game that I love. I’ve got a lot to share, so keep an eye out and we’ll talk soon.”

Prior to joining the USM coaching staff in the summer of 2019, Mulvany spent nearly a decade as the President of Scout Softball, a technology company that he founded.

Following Mulvany’s announcement, multiple Southern Miss players expressed their thoughts via Twitter.
