Florida State great Sydney Sherrill is joining the Grand Canyon coaching staff.
Sherrill will be a volunteer assistant for the Lopes; her name is already listed as part of the program’s staff on the team website. Sherrill joins head coach Shanon Hays’ staff entering his second year leading the program.
This summer, Sherrill played her inaugural professional season for Athletes Unlimited, where she finished 51st on the league’s leaderboard. She had seven hits and three RBIs during the five-week season.
During her career at Florida State, Sherrill established herself as one of the Seminoles program’s biggest stars. She was part of the core group that led FSU to the Women’s College World Series national title in 2018 and set a school record with 283 games played during her career in Tallahassee.
Her .382 career batting average ranks tenth all-time in the FSU program’s record books, while she also notched 43 home runs and 209 RBIs during her career as a Nole. She holds both the school and ACC records for career doubles with 82 two-base knocks. A stellar defender, she was the inaugural recipient of the Rawlings Gold Glove award at the third base position.
Grand Canyon finished the 2022 season with a 39-16 overall record and a 19-5 conference showing. The Lopes won the WAC tournament and reached the NCAA Regionals.
