Club Spotlight: Finesse Fastpitch 14U – Dreher/Langlois… “This Team is the Definition of ‘Grit’”

Finesse 14U Head Coach Dave Langlois, also a high school and college coach, gives encouragement to one of his players.

When Coach Dave Langlois speaks to his young players on the Finesse Fastpitch 14U team, they listen.

With an 18-year softball coaching resume that includes winning a D1 state title last year for South Lyon (Mich.) High and working as an assistant softball coach overseeing first base and base running at Lawrence Tech University—a private university in Southfield, Michigan—Coach Langlois has a lot of valuable instruction to give his club team.

He also admits to having a “passion for coaching travel softball” which is why you’ll find him also working with Finesse Fastpitch head Donny Dreher to develop this next generation of rising talent in the Midwest.

“Most of the players on this team were assembled last year for their 13U season,” coach Langlois explains. “I returned from coaching at the 16U and 18U levels for many years and ended to come back down to grab the excitement and exuberance that comes from that age group. I have loved every minute of it!”

Head Coach Dave Langlois poses with the 2021 Michigan state championship trophy with former South Lyon (Mich.) High player Ava Crumley, who is now a freshman at Michigan State.

The two-year successful development of the young team was realized when the Finesse tied for 7th at PGF Premier Nationals this summer in Irvine, California, but the head coach says there’s more to come.

“Being from the Midwest, this is a big deal for us but not our final destination. We plan to improve,” the long-time softball leader adds.

In the fall of 2021, the then-first year team produced a 31-14-3 overall record including a 7-0 mark in the Super Pools at Scenic City, a 3-1-1 finish at Bolts 5-Star and a 4-2 run at USSSA Space Coast in Florida.

This year, the team moved up to 16U to play at Stars and Stripes where it went 5-2-2 and competed at 14U in top events including the Power Pool at Colorado Sparkler (3-4 record) in addition to the 8-2 impressive season-ender at PGF Nationals which included a 4-0 record in pool play and a loss to the eventual winners, the Birmingham Thunderbolts.

The key to the team’s success, believes the head coach, is that it didn’t depend on one or two star players to carry the load, but instead won as an ensemble.

“The players’ individual stats are moderate,” Langlois admits, “because they always work well as a team. They understand the importance of a productive out and driving in runs and are the definition of grit. This team is always staying focused and persevering.”

Each athlete, however, is making a difference on her own, especially in high school play.

“This past spring all but one of them played their freshman seasons of high school ball and all of them were starters on their varsity teams,” the coach continues. “They contributed to their high school team and had to come back together this summer for the first time and re-acclimate to this team setting, competition level and expectations.”

How did the jump from spring high school go as they made the transition to travel ball over the summer?

“It was much different, and they killed it!” Coach Langlois continues. “Not without its ups and downs, sure, but they took care of business.”

That included a disappointing tourney in Colorado but two follow-ups were impressive.

“For example, after Colorado Sparkler we played up at Stars and Stripes in Illinois at the 16U level and started off 0-2 on Day 1. On day 2, we went 0-0-2 but came out of pool play 0-2-2 and went on to win the tournament in our selected bracket, finishing 5-2-2 in that tourney.”

Capping the summer with a Top 10 finish at PGF, the future looks bright for the Midwest team that is comprised of players from several states and includes several prospects already being looked at by major programs.

Here’s a player by player look at the Finesse 14U squad with comments from Coach Langlois…

  • BA: .349
  • Slg % ..494
  • OBP: .393

  • BA: .337
  • Slg % .442
  • OBP: .382
  • Hits: 28
  • RBI’s: 6

Coach Comments: Addison is a coach on the field as well as being a funny kid on the team. She always knows where the ball should go, competes hard and is a clutch hitter. Addison is exploring options at mid-major and P5 levels early on.

Madison Anson

#44 Madison Anson, P/CF (2025)

  • BA: .302
  • Slg % .469
  • OBP: .330
  • Hits: 29
  • RBI’s: 21

  • Batters Faced: 366
  • # of Pitches: 1,285
  • ERA: 2.85
  • K’s: 79
  • BB: 30

Coach Comments: Madison is extremely athletic and, although the youngest player on the team, may be the biggest. She scores from first on singles in the gap often and runs bases as well and is always hunting the next base. Madison hits for power and average and had a big bat last fall with nine home runs. She’s exploring interest from P5 schools for the right fit and when pitching, she competes hard in the circle. Madison is durable and consistent, producing lots of contact.

#16 Ryan Works, C/3B (2026)

  • BA: .413
  • Slg % .641
  • OBP: .434
  • Hits: 38
  • RBI’s: 26

Coach Comments: Ryan is the absolute definition of clutch. She is a coach in waiting after her playing days and has the respect of everyone on the field. Ryan’s stats support her super high knowledge of the game and execution.

#1 Molly Conner, P/OF (2025)

  • BA: .346

Coach Comments: Molly is a high competitor and the ultimate team player. This 2025 Extra Elite 100-ranked #10 player competes hard and fast and can strike out the best hitters in the country. She can compete with anyone. Molly is already getting interest from Kentucky, Ole Miss and several MAC-level schools to date.

Charlie Lambert

#9 Charlie Lambert, 2B/SS (2025)

  • BA: .379
  • Slg % .548
  • OBP: .385
  • Hits: 27
  • RBI’s: 13

Coach Comments: Charlie is a quiet assassin. She hits for power and average and had several infield hits where she just flat out-efforted the defense and beat them to first base. Charlie also had five home runs mixed in at the exact right times her team needed them. Defensively, she has some of the quickest feet and hands around.

#21 Addison McBrayer, 2B/OF (2025)

  • BA: .277
  • Slg % .400
  • OBP: .397
  • Hits: 18
  • RBI’s: 6

Coach Comments: Addison is still learning to use all of her immense tools, but when she does—watch out! She competes hard and we want her in our fox hole. You can’t bobble an infield hit on this slapper; she can place the ball where needed depending on the game situation. Addison is a highly-competitive player who gets better every game and is getting interest from Mid major schools including Coastal Carolina. More to come on this one…

#15 Cora Hall, 3B/P (2025)

  • BA: .320
  • Slg % .440
  • OBP: .342
  • Hits: 24

  • Innings Pitched: 24
  • Batters Faced: 115
  • #Pitches: 374
  • ERA: 6.70
  • K’s: 9
  • BB: 3

Coach Comments: Cora sees the game at a slower speed and has great anticipation of what’s going to happen and executes when needed. She also makes the pretty amazing play look routine. Cora acts and talks like a college athlete now and is a strong player who is only getting better every week.

New Players (added this fall):

Reyna Hyliard

Lily Courtney, OF/1B (2026) from Indiana
Coach Comments: Lily is a power-hitting lefty with speed. She knows the game and attacks the next base.

Haley Spitale, MIF (2026) from St. Joseph, Mich.
Coach Comments: Haley is a solid defender with a high ceiling. She has grown up around the game at the highest level and her mom (Jamie Spitale) is part of the Notre Dame coaching staff.

Reyna Hyliard, MIF/OF (2024) from Ann Arbor, Mich.
Coach Comments: Reyna brings experience in all aspects of the game and can play several positions.

Ella Zobel, P/1B (2024) from Buffalo, N.Y.
Coach Comments: Ella played for our Finesse 16U National team last season and will add a different look to our pitching staff. She competed hard with success in the circle last fall (2021) and summer (2022) against high level national competition.
