*****

1. Marshall’s Autumn Owen dominated with her bat on Friday in a pair of wins for the Herd in a doubleheader. Owen hit three home runs, recording seven RBIs, and actually hit more home runs than her team’s opponents got base hits – Herd pitching gave up just two hits across sthe pair of games. Owen hit a pair of home runs in the first game against Northern Illinois, then added an RBI double and a 2-run home run in the later game against Morgan State.

2. After suffering an early 5-2 deficit, Virginia Tech came storming back against Texas, scsoring four unanswered runs to take the extra-inning win over the hosting Longhorns. The Hokies hit three home runs in the game, including a 2-run shot from Kelsey Bennett and a solo home run by Emma Jackson in the 7th inning. With the game in extras, Cameron Fagan’s RBI single scored Emma Ritter and the Hokies held on for the win.

3. Wisconsin pitcher Paytn Monticelli was electric in an early-morning start against North Carolina. The Badgers’ hurler recorded thirteen strikeouts and was throwing fire even in the late innings, setting her new career best in single-game Ks and earning the win just hours after her team’s late-night arrival in Florida following a Madison snowstorm.

4. Boston University posted a pair of shutouts in a doubleheader sweep on Friday, but the performance of freshman pitcher Kasey Ricard was particularly eye-catching. Ricard dominated Georgia Tech, allowing just one hit in a complete-game victory. Ricard notched nine strikeouts against the ACC foe in just her third career start in the circle.

5. Maryland and Baylor traded stellar pitching performances down in Waco, with the Terps’ Trinity Schlotterbeck throwing a perfect game early in the day before her team was on the receiving end of an Dariana Orme no-hitter later. Schlotterbeck’s was the first perfect game by a Maryland pitcher since 2013 and included eight strikeouts in the 5-inning affair. Orme recorded eleven strikeouts in her 7-inning no-no, walking just one.
