12U CLUB SCOUTING REPORT

Extra Inning Softball began releasing the Extra Elite Eighty 12U Club Rankings on Monday, April 27, 2020, so we’ll continue to take a look at some of the top teams in the nation.

Today will spotlight two of Southern California’s top teams from San Diego, Calif. Let’s start with Coach Rafael Guzman‘s team …

BREAKERS LABS BLACK 07-GUZMAN/LABS

2019 Fall Record: 25-23-4 with notable wins over So Cal Athletics-Kingery/Medina, Corona Angels-Vasquez, Cal Cruisers-Nekritz and Irvine Sting.
Top Finishes: Top 25 at Triple Crown World Series and first place at San Diego Father’s Fay Tournament

Returners:

  • Emma Guzman (2026, UT, one of the smartest defensive players that can play all positions well. Contact hitter, keeps ball in play)
  • Abigail Niwata (2025, 2B/SS, reads the ball extremely well and stays in front of the ball. Doesn’t let the ball play her. Gets the ball out fast. Game isn’t too fast for her)
  • Hal’e Martin (2025, C/1B, above average in strength, size, arm, framing and pop time. Hard to run against her with average speed)
  • Caitlyn Griffith (2025, P/1B, a power lefty pitcher with max control. Does not get rattled in the circle. Has four pitches she can place anywhere in the zone)
  • Madelyn Codner (2025, OF, first step to the ball is fast, reads it off the bat with above average range in right field)
  • Sophia Cook (2025, P/MIF, has a ton of spin on her pitches. Has above average power for her frame. Top batting average and OBP on the team. Does not strike out)
  • Melanie Gonzalez (2026, 1B/SS, top hitter on the team. Highest batting average on the team, takes advantage of anything over the plate and doesn’t work against the pitch)
  • Vaimoanalei “Vai” Escamilla (2026, 3B/1B, an engaging player with strong arm and power at the plate. Keeps ball in play with power and is an RBI machine. Cousin of UCLA’s Megan Faraimo)
  • Alexa Arreguin (2025, 1B/3B. POWER! A true 4/5 RBI hitter, but doesn’t get selfish. Will hit to move runners over and put a bunt down when the team needs it. Ultimate team player and always supporting the players in the dugout or on the field)
  • Brandii Jimenez (2025, SS/OF, will sacrifice her body to keep the ball in front of her. Doesn’t let the ball hit the ground in the outfield and takes control in center field. Speed and power at the plate and will take advantage of extra bases)
  • Isabell “Izzy” Wilson (2025, OF, a power lefty that can also slap if opportunity is there. Plays all outfield positions and not afraid to lay out for a ball and save a run)
  • Kayla Evans (2025, OF/1B, a strong and powerful offensive player. Has a great attitude on and off the field in support of her team. Digging machine at first base)
