EXTRA ELITE SPOTLIGHT: RYLEE SLIMP
CF Rylee Slimp, #62 in the 2024 Extra Elite 100, helped Texas Blaze United 16U-C. Robertson to a 5th-place finish at the 16U Alliance Nationals and she recently talked to Extra Inning Softball about Texas Blaze United 18U, bringing passion, working on core strength, the Alliance Nationals, Mojo 2023-Lunsford, national championships, Taylor Thom, Kendrick Lamar, “Grey’s Anatomy” and remembering lyrics.

Honors: Academic and Athletic 1st Team All-District.
Travel Ball Highlights/Summer Stats: Team finished 5th in the Alliance Fastpitch Championship Series; 1st Team Tier 1 All-Tournament at AFCS; top hitter in the Alliance tournament, #1 in hits with 19, #1 in doubles with 5, top batting average for all players with over 30 plate appearances, hitting .543 for the week.
Travel Ball Summer Stats (with Texas Blaze United 16U-C. Robertson): .440 AVG, 1.241 OPS, 8 triples, 5 HRs and 37 RBIs.
Tell us about your travel team/organization and how you became involved with them? I have been playing with Texas Blaze since I was 8 years old.
What do you bring to the team? Passion, love for the game, leadership and being a great teammate.
What areas were you focusing on/trying to improve this summer? Working on my core strength and becoming a stronger athlete.
Can you tell us about your experience at Alliance Nationals this summer? (I) liked being able to face some of the best teams in the country that we’ve never seen before and every opponent we played was competitive. I also enjoyed the exposure my team received from the amount of college coaches that were there.
Which player/team was your toughest opponent and why? Mojo-Lunsford was the most dificult opponent we faced because of the tough pitching they brought to the table.
What are your goals for the future? To help both my Blaze United team and future college program win a national championship and a personal goal to be an All-American in college.
Who is your sports hero and why? My first big influencers in softball were Taylor Thom (All-American at Texas) and Chelsea Seggern from the University of Tennessee. When I was first getting into softball, I grew up watching and idolizing them, both in the Blaze program and in college. They helped me fall in love with the game and get an idea of where I wanted to be. Another big influence on me is Natasha Watley, who was an Olympic gold medalist, (a) lefty hitter who excelled in center field and inspired me to wear the number 29 on my back.
What’s the best hype song and why? The best hype song is “All The Stars” by Kendrick Lamar and SZA. `
What’s your favorite TV show to binge and why? I like “Grey’s Anatomy” because I can go back and watch it as many times as I want and still be just as interested in it.
Do you have a secret talent/skill? I am very skilled at remembering the lyrics to almost every song I hear.
