THE LAST INNING MINI-Q&A

We like to take a look at some of the top prospects from around the country here at TLI and today we spotlight pickle connoisseur/adrenaline junkie Ashlyn Wachtendorf of Centex Buzz Gold, who has committed to Baylor.

Ashlyn committed to the Bears early so she didn’t get many calls on Sept. 1!

Tell us about your travel team/organization and how you became involved with them?
Centex Buzz was the premier select organization in the Central Texas area when I was 10 years old. We decided to join the organization in order to improve my skills and compete against the best competition in the State of Texas and Nationally.

How has recruiting been going since September 1st?
Since I was blessed to receive the offer from Baylor University before the rule changed my freshman year, it really hasn’t affected me at all.

During the stay-at-home orders because of the coronavirus situation what new training methods did you use to stay busy?
I began using Blast Motion and basically lived in the cage. I hit every day and worked towards hitting certain numbers according to Blast Motion. I also played catch with my dad or one of my select teammates.

What is something you have faced in your life that has helped you become the person that you are today?
When I was younger, my mom and dad instilled in me a hard work ethic. During my academic and sporting career, I have been able to see what hard work and commitment to excellence provides. It hasn’t always been easy, but I am constantly reminded that nothing beats hard work. I approach the classroom and athletic field with the mindset of no one will outwork me.

What’s something that people would be surprised to learn about you?
I feel like I am an adventurous person and an adrenaline junkie. I would love to bungee jump and ride an elephant in the African Safari.

Do you have a secret talent/skill?
I can stand on one leg and eat an entire jar of Vlasic Pickles at one time.
