The PGF Opening Ceremonies for the younger age divisions–14U, 12U and 10U–were held on Monday (Aug. 1, 2022) and thousands of softball players, coaches and family members descended on Huntington Beach (Calif.) Central Park to enjoy the festivities.
Under sunny skies with the temps in the 70’s, the kickoff for this week’s softball championships included everything from face painting to food trucks, sponsor booths to souvenir pins and apparel.
The Open Ceremonies officially began at 4:45 pm PST with the “Tapua” Tahitian Polynesian Dancers and continued with a program that included PGF President Dan Hay presenting a check to the John Wayne family for $65,000 in behalf of the softball community to help with cancer research (the event has now donated an impressive $700k for the cause).
The musical artist for the evening was singer John K, who had the softball players screaming as he performed several well-received numbers including “A Lot” which is approaching 1.3 million views on YouTube! Click HERE to watch the official video.
The entertainer was genuinely surprised at the reception of his audience as he said:
“Wow, what a crowd! I didn’t know what to expect but this is the most enthusiastic audience I’ve had in a long time!”
There was certainly a lot to see, hear and even taste with the multiple food booths that featured everything from Italian food to caramel corn.
Here are some of the visual images from the evening and a few video clips also…
