Rising to a Division 1 head coaching role is an impressive achievement in its own right, but doing so at a young age is even more impressive. A coach has to show some serious softball acumen early and frequently to ascend to running their own program.
MJ Knighten became the youngest head coach in Division I when she was hired to lead the San Diego program last summer; at the time, her age of 25 was one of the key bullet points in the announcement that emphasized her impressive softball IQ and knowledge.
Of the ten coaches listed here, half are entering their first season as program leaders in 2022.
