The UCLA softball program has signed transfers Jada Cecil (pitcher) and Jadelyn Allchin (outfielder), as announced on Friday by Kelly Inouye-Perez, The Shelly Carlin UCLA Head Softball Coach.

Cecil, a 5-foot-10 pitcher from UC San Diego, comes to UCLA after two All-Big West First Team selections in her freshman and sophomore seasons in 2022 and 2023. She owns a 31-15 career record with a 1.92 earned run average (ERA) and 405 strikeouts over 335.0 innings pitched. Cecil has two years of eligibility remaining.

“We are excited to add Jada Cecil to our pitching staff in 2024,” Inouye-Perez said. “Jada will bring experience and a competitive edge to help the Bruins in the circle. Jada was coached by former UCLA standout Rachel Garcia at UCSD and enjoyed learning and growing from her. We welcome Jada to the Bruin Family!”

Cecil was named the Big West Pitcher of the Year and an NFCA Freshman of the Year Top 10 Finalist in 2022. That season, Cecil rewrote UC San Diego’s record books with 234 strikeouts and broke the single-game record with 16 strikeouts versus Hawai’i on April 1, 2022. She finished the year as a 20-game winner with a 20-5 record and 1.88 ERA.

A native of Temecula, Calif., Cecil prepped at Temecula Valley High School where she was named the Southwestern League Pitcher of the Year as a senior in 2021.

Allchin, a 5-foot-6 outfielder from Washington, will star as a graduate transfer for the Bruins in 2024. Over 161 games in four seasons for the Huskies, Allchin hit for a .275 batting average with 70 runs batted in and 21 home runs. She slashed for a .289/.333/.589 line in her senior year in 2023.

“We are excited to have Jadelyn join our Bruin Family,” Inouye-Perez said. “She brings athleticism to our outfield and has a combination of speed and power at the plate. Jadelyn also adds experience as a fifth-year student-athlete after an impactful career at Washington and having competed on the U.S. Junior National Team. Jadelyn is excited to be closer to home and competing with former travel ball teammates Maya Brady, Sharlize Palacios and Janelle Meoño.

The Huntington Beach, Calif. product brings three years of postseason experience highlighted by a trip to the Women’s College World Series in 2023. Allchin played a pivotal role in the Huskies’ postseason push last season with an RBI double in the seventh inning of Washington’s NCAA Regionals elimination game versus McNeese State on May 21, helping spur a six-run comeback.

Allchin earned Pac-12 All-Freshman Team honors as a redshirt freshman in 2021. She set season highs in average (.301), hits (31), runs batted in (24) and doubles (6) that year.

These additions bring the total to five newcomers set to join the Bruins in 2024.
